The Abia State Ministry of Environment has said it was yet to ban the use of styrofoam foils, but has warned residents on the dangers of its use.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, and made available to the media on Friday, says:
“Following the reports of the obvious health hazards discovered nationally concerning the product called Styrofoam, and popularly known as Take Away Foil, which some States including Lagos State has banned the use of, the Government of Abia State through the Ministry of Environment, wishes to sensitise the general public on the danger of the use of the said Styrofoam, and advise the immediate discontinuous use of it as food containers until further investigations are fully carried out.”
The statement adds that the general public should be guided.
