Abia Former Mayor Felicitates Ezinwa Okoroafor On Emergence As FIDA International President

The immediate past Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State, Mr. Newman Azu, has congratulated Ezinwa Nwanyieze Okoroafor for emerging as the President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA.

Okoroafor emerged President of the 80-year-old FIDA during its 38th triennial convention at Cali, Colombia on November 8, 2024.

In a statement on Monday, Azu said the emergence of Okoroafor as President was a testament to the fact that dedication, drive and commitment have rewards, adding that the newly elected President had shown quality leadership at various levels of her career.

He described her election as a significant milestone for Nigeria, and Abia State in particular, stressing that it was an opportunity for her to ensure that the Association continued to grow from strength to strength.

Azu, who on behalf of his family expressed joy for the recognition of Ezinwa Okoroafor by the World body, also extended felicitations to the husband of the new FIDA President, Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor, who is the Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring and Evaluation to the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.

Ezinwa graduated from the University of Nigeria with an LLB (Hons) degree in 1985 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. She holds a Master degree in Law (1989) from the University of Lagos.

She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Bar Association; and a Life Member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).

She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK, Nigeria Branch as well as the Institute of Directors Nigeria. In addition, she is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Nigeria.
