The Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna has lauded Abians for their continued commitment to the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. He also expressed disappointment at those who have kept violating the order of government on environmental sanitation exercises.
According to a press release signed by the Director of Information, Ministry of Environment, Chioma Alex-Chikezie, dated December 16, 2023, the Commissioner made the commendation while answering questions by journalists shortly after monitoring the December clean-up activity.
Ogbonna expressed his appreciation to residents who were able to participate in exercise not withstanding that it came a week to the yuletide.
“This is inorder to keep the State clean preparatory to the festive season, as we prepare for the influx of our people as well as investors coming into the State for the Yuletide season.”
“Let us all join hands with the Otti led administration in actualizing a clean and memorable Yuletide season for all”, the release quotes the Commissioner as saying.
The Commissioner however expressed disappointment at the level of non compliance of traders at the Orie Ugba market where he met trading activities going on in the market. He sternly warned them that serious strategies like engaging with community leaders and security personnel would be enforced in future to make them comply.
Addressing defaulters, he charged them to always listen and adhere to Government Announcement to avoid flouting government orders in future.
He noted that the State Government was stepping up collaboration with security personnel to ensure improved compliance in subsequent exercises .
Mr. Ogbonna who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment, Lady Joy Maduka and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Prof Ijeoma Iheukwumere, used the occasion to wish residents of the state a happy Yuletide season.
