Former Executive Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Council, Chief Sylvanus Nwaji, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Ukwa West State Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections in Abia State.
According to a press release issued by the Abia State APC and signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the Returning Officer for the Abia State House of Assembly and Governorship Primary Elections, Bartho Nyelong, officially declared Nwaji winner of the primary election conducted on Thursday, May 21, 2026 in Ukwa West.
Chief Nwaji, popularly known as “Agu Baa Ohia II,” ran an active and strategic campaign ahead of the APC primary. His campaign activities included official declarations at the residence of his Obuzor Ward Chairman in Ezendioma and at the residence of the Ukwa West APC Chairman in Umuaka.
The former Council Chairman also presented his legislative vision before APC stakeholders in Ukwa West at the country home of party leader, Dr. Eruba Dimgba.

Nwaji has remained a notable figure in Abia politics since joining partisan politics. He previously contested as the All Peoples Party (APP) candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency during the 2023 general elections.
Before serving as Executive Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Council, Nwaji held office as Transition Committee Chairman, further strengthening his political experience and grassroots influence in Ukwa West.
