The Umuiku Asa women in Ozar Clan, have declared their support for Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu Esq., the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The declaration was made during the women’s 2026 August Meeting at Umuiku Asa, where Nwogu received a warm welcome from the community amid songs, cheers and expressions of solidarity.
The women, who described him as “Onapuru Agu Ihe Okponaonu,” said their support was informed by his record of service, accessibility and contributions to the development of the people.
Welcoming Nwogu to the gathering, Hon. Tony Mezie Nwaubani highlighted his previous public service engagements, including his tenure as Local Government Chairman, his service as Chairman of Abia State Oil Producing Development Commission (ASOPADEC), and his period as Abia State representative on the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He urged the people to view Nwogu’s candidacy as an opportunity to secure effective representation for the constituency.
Responding, Chief Nwogu thanked the women and the entire Umuiku Asa community for their support, prayers and goodwill, describing the APC ticket he secured as a collective opportunity rather than a personal achievement.
He stressed that his ambition was about giving the people effective representation. “This is not my ticket; it is our ticket,” Nwogu said, urging Asa sons and daughters to work together for a common purpose devoid of rancour, and asked the women and the entire Ozar clan to support his aspirations for a better Ukwa.
“My aspiration is centered on quality representation, women and youth empowerment, quality education for our people, employment opportunities, agricultural aids and infrastructure & human capital development” He said.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Chief Okey Kanu, commended Nwogu’s character and record of public service, urging the women to mobilise support for him across Umuiku Asa and the wider Ozar Clan to secure his victory in the 2027 House of Representatives general election.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of Umunwanyi Umuiku Asa expressed the women’s readiness to support Nwogu, assuring him that their commitment would extend beyond those present at the August Meeting, noting that they would rally around him to secure his victory.
The gathering, attended by community leaders and political stakeholders, including Barr. Henry Chilaka, Chief David Nwogu, Chief Alwell Faith, Comr. Kenneth Alozie, and others further strengthened the growing grassroots support around Nwogu’s candidacy.
Highlights of the gathering were celebrations and praises, further underscoring the cordial relationship and the adoption of Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu as their consensus candidate.
For the APC candidate, the message from Umuiku Asa clearly affirmed that their support for his candidacy is increasingly being built around his record of service, grassroots accessibility, and the expectation of effective representation.
