The apex socio-cultural organisation in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Asa Development Union (ADU), has condemned calls by a group of individuals in the area urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Onyedikachi Enyeribe Nwankwo as the Commissioner representing Abia State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Some online news media platforms recently reported that a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Ukwa West, during a rally, called on President Tinubu to appoint Nwankwo as NDDC Commissioner over alleged poor execution of NDDC projects in Ukwa West and claims that projects were being diverted to other areas.
However, Abia State is currently represented on the NDDC board by Dr. Eruba Dimgba, a son of Asa in Ukwa West.
In a press release signed by the Secretary-General of the Asa Development Union, Sir Boniface Nwaigwe, the organisation described the call for Dimgba’s replacement as politically motivated, alleging that it amounted to political desperation, a campaign of calumny and misrepresentation.
According to the statement, “It is disrespectful, divisive, and premature to begin agitating for the replacement of a serving son of Asa, Chief Eruba Dimgba, whose tenure has not expired. Such conduct undermines our leaders and creates unnecessary rancour within our land.”
The ADU, while urging political actors in Ukwa West to channel their energy to issues that unite and develop Asa, said it remained committed to protecting the image, unity and progress of the people of Ukwa West.
