The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday held a post-primaries election review and reconciliation stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia, the state capital.
Speaking at the meeting, the Abia APC Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, said the party remained focused on moving forward despite the challenges arising from the primaries. He appealed to members to forgive any shortcomings they may have observed in the conduct of the members of the State Working Committee during the primaries election.
Chukwu described the party’s state primaries as a process that produced some of the best aspirants in Abia’s political landscape, while calling on members to unite ahead of future elections. According to him, unity remains critical to the APC’s ambition of taking over the Abia State Government from the ruling Labour Party.
The APC chairman urged aggrieved members to avoid seeking redress through the media and instead make use of the party’s internal issues-resolution mechanisms.
Chukwu further warned that the APC would not tolerate anti-party activities in the future. However, he announced the party’s decision to pardon Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Hon. Chris Nkwonta over their public statements indicating support for the incumbent governor’s re-election.
He also announced the appointment of Dr. Maduekwe Ukaegbu, who represents Abia State on the National Complaints Commission, as Chairman of the party’s Reconciliation Committee.
The meeting was attended by several prominent party stakeholders, including Dr. Eruba Dimgba, member representing Abia State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC); Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka, Executive Director, Finance, South East Development Commission (SEDC); Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike, Commissioner representing the South East in the FCT Civil Service Commission; Hon. Tony Mezie Nwubani, former Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly; and Chief William Nwanguma, Coordinator, Renewed Hope Partners, Ukwa East.
