The Ndida Ozaa Autonomous Community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State on Tuesday conferred the Chieftaincy title of Ekwueme of Asa Land on the Commissioner representing Abia State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Eruba Dimgba.
The conferment which was handled by the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze Nnamdi Agu was part of the activities lined up to mark the flagging off of the 4.8-kilometre Umuebulungwu – Oborhia Road project by the NDDC.
According to a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the NDDC Commissioner on Youth Mobilisation. Elder ThankGod Akoma, the community praised the Commissioner for his leadership capabilities.
Speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze Samuel Chukwuemeka Agu, expressed deep appreciation to the NDDC for responding promptly to the community’s appeal. He described the Umuebulungwu–Obohia Road as a vital economic corridor whose deteriorating condition had negatively affected farming, trade, transportation, and access to essential services.
Also speaking, the Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Evans Chima Koko, alongside the leaders of the women’s and youth groups, commended Dr. Dimgba for his swift intervention. They noted that, in addition to the road project, the Commissioner’s facilitation of solar-powered street lights has significantly enhanced security and boosted socio-economic activities in the communities.

In his speech, the NDDC Commissioner, Dimgba assured the people that the contractor would deliver a quality job, while reaffirming the NDDC’s commitment to providing critical infrastructure that will improve the living conditions of communities across the Niger Delta.
He stressed that the Commission remains committed to transforming communities through sustainable development, noting that roads, electricity, schools, and healthcare facilities are essential services, not luxuries.

He added that the NDDC would continue to collaborate with traditional rulers and community stakeholders to ensure that development projects address the genuine needs of the people.
The Commissioner urged the community to take ownership of the road project to ensure its protection and long-term sustainability.
