Ukwa West PDP Faces Major Crisis As More Members Join APC

The Ukwa West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday suffered a major setback as hundreds of its members at four political wards of Ipu East, Obuzor, Ogwe and Obokwe in Ukwa West declared for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

It should be recalled that the member representing the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chris Nkwonta recently defected to the APC, leading to the declarations of some critical PDP stakeholders in the persons of Sir Don Ubani, former Commissioner of Information and Strategy in Abia State, Chief John AjuIeogu, former Ukwa West Transition Committee Chairman, for the party.

Speaking on behalf of defectors from Ipu East, Hon. Chidiebere Iheme said they decided to join the APC due to growing relevance of the party, adding that it was evident that the APC was poised for greater achievements in the Local Government Area. He expressed confidence that better dividends of democracy to the people of Ipu East Ward would be realisedbfrom the APC.

He noted the need for a more responsive governance model that prioritizes local concerns and engages effectively with grassroot supporters.

In his remarks on behalf of defectors from the Ogwe Ward, Sir Eugene Dike said they were committed to enhancing the effectiveness of the APC in their area, and contributing to its mission of fostering development and prosperity.

While Mr. Okezie Ezere, on behalf of the defectors from Obokwe Ward, affirmed the importance of unity among the party members, calling for collaborative efforts to ensure APC’s successes at all levels of governance, Mr. Boniface Nwogu on behalf of the defectors from Obuzor Ward appreciated the leaders of the APC for welcoming them heartily into its fold, and promised to work assiduously with his team to make sure that APC Obuzor Ward in Ukwa West, Abia State and Nigeria at large succeeds in it’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized that inclusiveness and unity of purpose would always prevail over obstacles.

These occasions were graced by Hon. Chief Chris Nkwonta, the House of Rep Member for Ukwa Federal Constituency, Chief Eruba Dimgba, the NDDC Commissioner for Ábia State. Chief Sir Don Ubani, former Abia State Commissioner, Chief S.U Nwaji, former Executive Chairman of Ukwa West, Chief John Ajuzieogu, former T.C Chairman of Ukwa West Chief Dominic Oforji, APC Chieftain and the leader of APC Ipu East Ward, Hon. Ikechukwu Mmemme, former Ukwa West APP Chairman.

Notable among those that defected to the APC during the occasions, were Sir Princewill Esiaba Iwezor, former Commissioner of the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission, OMPADEC, Comr. O. P. Ifeanyichukwu, Mr Ezenwanu, Lady Joan Okala.
