Ohandu Community In Abia State Expresses Joy Over Water Project By Gov Alex Otti

Following the intervention activity of Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) in drilling and reticulation of a water borehole at Ohandu, Ukwa East LGA, the people of the community have expressed deep joy to the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, and the General Manager of the Commission, Venerable Joshua Onyeike, for solving the perennial problem of water scarcity in their area.

Speaking to news men during a visit to the site, the Secretary of the community Mr. Kelechi Okere said that the people of the community had suffered greatly over many decades ago, due to lack of potable drinking water, explaining that their only source of water supply was a small stream which always gets polluted, causing out-break of cholera and other waterborn diseases.

Mr. Okere bemoaned the past administrations for abandoning them, and pointed out that the government of Dr. Alex Otti has done very well in remembering them, adding that the community will continue to support his government and assure that they will make good use of the project as well as guide it jeleously.

Also Speaking, the woman leader of the Ohandu community, Mrs Uchechi Kalu said the women of the area have been relieved of the burden of water scarcity with the provision of the borehole, which according to her, was made available through the efforts of their community leaders, ASOPADEC and the government of Dr. Alex Otti, and prayed for God to guide and protect them as well as requested for more development projects in their area.

In her remarks, the Director of Water resources in ASOPADEC, Mrs Christy Owuala said the project was properly executed to meet with industrial standard, adding that the borehole was reticulated within the community and assured the borehole will serve them well.

She commended the General Manager of ASOPADEC, Venerable Onyeike, for relentlessly funding the project and the community for their cooperation while supersing the project.
