Ahead of the Paralympic Games coming up in Paris, between August 28 and September 28, 2024, Nigerian paralympic athletes, including Miss Esther Ogechika Nworgu from Umuaka in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, have departed Nigeria for a training tour in Germany.
Miss Nworgu, it should be recalled, won a gold medal during the second edition of the National Para Games that took place 2023 in Abuja, where she lifted a total of 112 kilograms. She also won eight gold medals at the Africa Paralympics Powerlifting Championship that held at Cairo, Egypt in 2022, and a silver medal during the World Paralympics Powerlifting Tournament at Dubai in 2023.
The Paralympic Games is expected to attract more than 4,000 athletes from more than 150 nations across the 22 sporting activities. The opening ceremony of the event is on Wednesday, August 28, while the first day of the competition is Thursday, August 29. Its closing ceremony is on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
