A release by the Deputy Director of Information of the Ministry, Obioma Chidinma, states that the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna while performing the flag off ceremony at the Ministry, said the exercise was part of Governor Alex Otti’s vision to keep the environment safe, adding that after government offices, the Ministry would focus on open spaces and gutters.

The Commissioner noted that the fumigation exercise would help mitigate the spread of diseases and cholera, which according to him, was already ravaging some parts of Nigeria.

The release adds that the Director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Mr. Godson Aharanya, the leader of the team of fumigators, stated that the aim of the exercise was to eliminate all insects that are of medical importance and revealed that the chemicals in use are environmentally friendly .

The release also warned people to wash their fruits, hands before eating, and stop open defecation to help prevent cholera in Abia State.
