The Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Mr. Newman has disclosed that the Ukwa High Court would begin to sit at Obehie in no distant time.

It should be recalled that the Ukwa High Court has, for some years, been sitting at Aba.

He made the disclosure on Saturday during a Town Hall meeting convened by Ukwa West political appointees in the Abia State Government at Chyvik Model Secondary School, Obehie, Asa in Ukwa West.

Azu, who was described as a judiciary-friendly Mayor recently at the ground breaking ceremony of the Ukwa NBA Centre, said he was motivated to renovate the Ukwa High Court to the level of being one of the best High Courts in Abia State, to ease the sufferings of his people who had to go to Aba for their matters at the Ukwa High Court.

Speaking further at the Town Hall meeting, the Mayor stated that apart from the renovation of the Ukwa High Court, he had completed the administrative block of the Nigeria Police at Obehie, which, according to him was abandoned for years. He also said his administration had graded some critical rural roads across the local government area.

Azu said:

“We are upgrading the Ukwa West Customary Court, and it is nearing completion. When I embarked on a visit of the facilities in the Ukwa West Local Government Area, I discovered that the Customary Court had been overtaken by weeds. I was even told that snakes at one time or the other had disrupted Court proceedings. I thought it very necessary to put the Customary Court on our priority list”, he said.
