Abia Govt To Go Tough On Sanitation Exercise Defaulters

The Abia State Government might introduce some stringent measures against those sabotaging the State’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Speaking after the sanitation exercise that held on Saturday, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, who observed that there was an appreciable turn-out during the exercise, warned the youths who have formed the habit of playing football during the exercise to desist from it in their own interests.

He said he would take up the allegation of some Policemen helping Sanitation defaulters to escape justice with the Commissioner of Police in the State, stressing that there was need for synergy between the Ministry of Environment and the Police in order to strengthen the programme.

The Commissioner also said that desilting of drainages in major cities in the State was on-going.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Prof. Ijeoma Iheukwumere, urged Abia residents to learn to keep their environment clean in line with the vision of the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
