The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has formally flagged off the construction of the 3.5 kilometre six lanes running from Okpara Square – Ossah -Express Tower road project in Umuahia, the State Capital.

Speaking at the occasion, Otti made a commitment that the road project would be executed with a standard drainage system, street lights and pedestrian walkway.

The Governor noted that the decision to expand the road to 6 lanes was to unlock the economic potentials of the State capital as well as open up the city to greater economic opportunities.

He announced that the government has commenced payment of compensation to owners of the 130 structures marked for demolition as all the money required to pay compensation has been provided, and asked those yet to receive theirs to exercise patience.

“As at Last week, I had provided all the money that would be used in paying compensation to the 130 owners of Houses on this road. So if you have not received your own compensation, it must just be a bureaucratic issue that must be resolved within the week, but the money is sitting in the bank waiting for you”, Gov. Otti said.

The Governor, who said that the government feels the pains of the people, added that he decided to delay the flag off to allow for compensation to be released to owners of the affected structures.

He promised that the project would be extended to the Onuimo axis being the boundary of Abia and Imo State.
