Abia born female paralympic powerlifter, Esther Ogechika Nworgu has dedicated the silver medal she won at the ongoing World Paralympic Powerlifting tournament at Dubai, United Arab Emirates to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti.
Nworgu, who is still the World record holder in the 41 female category in paralympic powerlifting, achieved the feat by pushing 111kg.
After winning the silver medal, she wrote:
“I fought, so well I fought and God never lets me down. It’s a silver medal at the ongoing World para Powerlifting Championship in Dubai with the lift of 111kg all to the glory of God.
“It wasn’t an easy fight but I thank God who made all things work according to His will.
“I’m therefore dedicating this medal to Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, the Executive Governor of Abia State for his support on this trip, if not for him it wouldn’t have been a possible journey.”
The tournament is a mandatory championship qualification for the 2024 paralympic with 89 countries, 499 athletes of 209 women and 290 men.
Nworgu hails from Umuaka village in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
