The Government of Rivers State has ordered the immediate arrest of the construction engineer handling the two storey building that collapsed in Port Harcourt.
In a special announcement, the Secretary to the Rivers State government, Tammy Danagogo said the government had also ordered the immediate closure of the construction site at Rumuoke Street, off Ada George in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
The statement reads in part:
“The government directs the immediate arrest of the construction engineer of the collapsed building for proper investigation.
“We warn professionals in the building sector of our State to henceforth comply strictly with all necessary regulations as the Rivers State Government will not condone any deviation from extant laws and regulations in the sector.
“We, hereby, call on the public to report to the authorities, activities of suspected unauthorized builders across the state.”
Meanwhile, four injured persons have been rescued from the site, and the Government has confirmed that it was still searching for more victims.
