A Chieftain of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna has described the emergence of Dr. Alex Otti as the Governor-elect of Abia State as a promising turning point for the State.

Otti, the Governorship Candidate of the LP, was, on Wednesday, declared winner of the election which held on March 18, 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. He polled a total of 175,467 votes to defeat his closest rival, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 88,529 votes.

In a statement, Ogbonna, who is a native of Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, thanked the people of the State for the massive support they gave to Otti during the governorship campaigns, elections and the period the results were being awaited.

He expressed confidence that Abia State would breathe fresh air while Otti is at the helm of affairs, adding that the large number of votes the LP candidate garnered was an endorsement of his competence, experience and ability to provide quality leadership.

Ogbonna said the jubilation across the State immediately after the declaration of Otti as the Governor-elect was an eloquent testimony to the fact that the people have been in bondage under the administration of the PDP.

The party Chieftain said:

“God has chosen this time to remember Abia by giving it a man with great vision to pilot its affairs. It is stating the obvious that we have suffered so much in the State, particularly the people of Ukwa West, my own people, but I believe, very strongly, that the time to change the narratives has come.

“With Dr. Alex Otti, a seasoned banker and economist behind the driving seat of Abia’s leadership, there is no doubt that we will witness a fast pace of meaningful development on many areas of human endeavour in the State”.

He also appealed to the people of the State to continue to accord Dr. Alex Otti maximum support, even after he would have been sworn-in as the Governor.
