The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Barrister Nnadozie Okpokiri on Tuesday visited the physically challenged in the Constituency at their Secretariat in Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
In his speech, Okpokiri said he considered it very necessary to pay a visit to the Special people, otherwise known as the physically challenged in Ukwa Federal Constituency to make known to them that the APC has elected him as it’s candidate for the House of Representatives in the elections coming up next year.
He said he was aware that the physically challenged needed self reliance instead of handouts, adding that he would ensure that necessary lifeline would be given to them if he becomes a Federal lawmaker.
He reminded them that when votes are cast for the right candidates, the quality of life of people would improve, and the future of children guaranteed, stressing that votes have given strength to the electorate.
He said he was mindful of the fact that the physically challenged in the country was critically significant in the Nigeria project.
Speaking, the Secretary of the physically challenged, Ukwa West chapter, ThankGod Nwanosike appealed to legislators in Nigeria to recognise the needs of the physically challenged, and make bills for a certain percentage to be reserved for the employment of the physically challenged.
He said, “we need to be established so that we can manage ourselves.”
Nwanosike, who is also the Abia South Coordinator of the physically challenged, lamented the neglect of the physically challenged in Ukwa Federal Constituency.
Other Special People who spoke emphasised the need for those in government to encourage them, particularly as they have refused to beg.
