The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State, may worsen, as factional Chairman of the party, Hon. Acho Obioma, the former Chairman, Hon. (Chief) Donatus Nwankpa and others have joined former APC gubernatorial aspirant, Dr. Alex Otti to defect to the Labour party.
The Abia APC, which held its Governorship and House of Assembly primaries election on Thursday, is faced with the emergence of High Chief Ikechi Emenike and Dr. Uche Ogah as Governorship candidates. The party, only a few days ago, witnessed the resignation of Dr. Alex Otti, who was a frontline Governorship aspirant in the party.
Sources close to the APC say that both Obioma and Nwankpa had several consultations with the Labour party for the purpose of competing for the the votes of the people of Abia State in the 2023 general elections.
According to the sources, other prominent members of the APC and some other parties may also defect to the Labour party in order to achieve their aspirations.
The Labour party in Nigeria has made its mark on the political landscape of Nigeria, having given the like of Adams Oshiomhole, former Governor of Edo State and Mimiko, former Governor of Ondo State the platform to occupy sensitive political offices.
