2027: LP Chieftain Nworgu Says He Dropped Ambition For House Of Assembly Over Asa Think Tank ‘s Position On Zoning

A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and State House of Assembly aspirant in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Esv. Felix Chinedu Nworgu, has explained why he withdrew his ambition to contest for the Ukwa West State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nworgu, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2019 general elections, had declared his intention to run for the State House of Assembly after defecting to the Labour Party in March 2026.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday, the LP stalwart said his decision to step down followed the position adopted by the Asa Think Tank, a body inaugurated by the Asa Development Union (ADU), the apex socio-cultural organisation in Ukwa West.

According to him, the group zoned the 2027 House of Assembly seat to the Asa Group Zone of Ukwa West Local Government Area, making it necessary for him to respect the arrangement in the interest of unity and fairness.

Nworgu said he deemed it important to clarify his position in order to calm his supporters and political associates who had continued to pressure him to remain in the race.

He noted that it would be politically unwise to go against the zoning formula, especially as the ADU had allocated the House of Representatives position and not the House of Assembly seat to his area.

The Labour Party Chieftain assured his supporters that he remains committed to active politics and would continue working for the growth and success of the LP in Ukwa West and Abia State. He further expressed optimism that his political aspiration for the State House of Assembly would materialise in 2031 when it would be the turn of the Ipu Zone to produce a candidate for the position.

“I will continue to support my party, the Labour Party, and all its candidates until the appropriate time for me to throw my hat into the political ring. I will work with all at my disposal to ensure that His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR. wins his second tenure, and also all the candidates of Labour Party in the 2027 general elections”, he added.
