Abia Commissioner Ogbonna Calls For Strategic Collaboration On Environmental Sustainability At Nigerian British University’s Matriculation Ceremony

The Commissioner for Environment in Abia State, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna has called for collaboration between the government and the Nigerian British University, Abia State.

Speaking during the third matriculation ceremony of the institution located in Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, on Saturday, Ogbonna highlighted that partnership with the University in the areas of environmental sustainability programmes, climate education, waste management innovation, green campus initiatives, and community sensitisation projects would benefit the University, host local government and Abia State as a whole.

The Commissioner urged the students, staff, lecturers, and managers of the University to make cleanliness their watchword, adding that cleanliness is next to Godliness.

He advised the matriculating students to embrace excellence, ethical responsibility, and environmental consciousness in the course of their stay in the institution, adding, “you are entering not just an academic institution, but a transformative ecosystem.”

Ogbonna commended the rapid developmental strides of the University, pointing out that institutional growth is not accidental, but a product of vision, sound governance, accountability and prudent management of resources.

The Abia State Commissioner for Environment, who hails from Ukwa West Local Government Area, expressed great delight that the institution is located in Asa, describing the area as a land of opportunity and growth.
