A group of women mobilising support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Chief Eric Opah, on Tuesday received him at the Imo State Airport, Owerri, as he returned to the state to continue his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The group, known as Abia Women on Special Duty for Eric Opah, Ukwa Ngwa Women’s Wing, expressed solidarity with the APC candidate, with Princess Onodugo, who addressed the gathering, describing Opah as a leader capable of transforming the state. The women also chanted solidarity songs and called on Abians to support his governorship ambition.
Responding to the reception, Opah thanked the women and other supporters who gathered at the airport, saying he had returned to continue his campaign activities. He urged his supporters to remain resolute and consistent in their support for his political mandate.
At his country home in Umunna Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, a former Abia State commissioner and elder spokesman, Hon. John Nwangborogwu, thanked the supporters for their solidarity and expression of goodwill. Nwangborogwu expressed confidence in Opah’s electoral prospects and called on supporters to take his campaign message across the state.
Former commissioner, Hon. Mrs Achumba, also expressed delight at the turnout of supporters and reaffirmed her support for the APC candidate.
In separate remarks, Princess Onodugo and Chief Chimezie Okoronkwo reiterated their support for Opah’s governorship ambition. Onodugo called on Abians to join the campaign, while Okoronkwo thanked supporters for their continued commitment and expressed optimism about the candidate’s electoral prospects.
Speaking at the gathering, Chief Eric Opah thanked God for his safe return to his hometown and appreciated the women and other supporters for their continued solidarity. He said the electorate and God would determine the outcome of the election, while reiterating his commitment to inclusive governance, youth empowerment and employment opportunities.
The women subsequently proceeded from Opah’s country home in Umunna Nsulu to Isuikwuato Local Government Area, where his running mate and deputy governorship candidate, Dr Agu Egbe, was celebrating his birthday. Opah was also received by supporters, APC chieftains, party leaders and stakeholders, including former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
