Traditional rulers from Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, led by their Chairman, HRH Eze Augustine Chinyere Dike, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
During the visit, the traditional rulers commended Governor Otti for restoring electricity to parts of Ukwa West and for his administration’s efforts in infrastructure development across the area. They also praised the Governor for the ongoing housing development in Obehie, the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt-Aba Road, and the revocation of the Enyimba Economic City project.
According to a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, on August 28, 2026, the traditional rulers also raised concerns over several issues affecting communities in Ukwa West. Among their concerns were the suspension of projects by the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), the rehabilitation of the Obokwe-Umuekechi-Uratta Road, the need for utility vehicles to facilitate their activities, and the lack of electricity in Owaza and Umuorie communities.
Responding to the concerns, Governor Otti assured the traditional rulers that the construction of the Obokwe-Umuekechi-Uratta Road would be captured in the state’s 2027 budget.
The Governor also commended the traditional rulers for their role in maintaining peace in Ukwa West, particularly in the manner they handled the challenges involving Inner Galaxy Company.
Otti further promised to look into the various requests presented by the traditional rulers, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of development reach communities across Abia State, including the oil-producing areas of Ukwa West.
The Governor was joined at the meeting by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu; the General Manager of ASOPADEC, Ven. Dr. Joshua Onyike; the Mayor of Ukwa West LGA, Pastor Dike Nwankwo; and other government officials.
