A prominent businessman in Ukwa West, Chief Lazarus Enwereuzor, has advised politicians in the area to make sure that they produce a consensus candidate from Asa for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

He said that it had become very imperative for politicians in Ukwa West to make the necessary sacrifices that would ensure that an Asa indigene occupies the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency seat in 2027.

In a statement dated Monday, April 07, 2025, Chief Enwereuzor, who is the owner of Lenzor Hotels in Ukwa West, commended Asa politicians for the new spirit of mixing up freely at events organised in the local government irrespective of political inclinations, and urged them to allow the same spirit guide them on political issues.

Enwereuzor said, “I am usually happy seeing the politicians in my area behave as brothers at different social events no matter who organised it, but I keep wondering why it has been difficult for them to agree on a consensus candidate for the House of Representatives position.

“I appeal to them to allow the feelings of the people guide their actions. I know that Asa people have been complaining against marginalisations, so addressing the issue should start with individuals making sacrifices in the interest of the larger population”.

He expressed his concerns that the people of Asa have deliberately denied themselves the chance of taking over the Federal Constituency seat from Ukwa East after their initial stay of eight years at the green chamber, adding that it was unconscionable that a position that should be shared between Ukwa East and Ukwa West Local Government Areas has been dominated by Ukwa East for close to 18 years.

“The two local government areas have been made brothers by nature, so it should not be difficult for them protect the interests of each another”, he added.

Enwereuzor further pointed out that it should not be out of place for politicians in both local government areas to sit down and agree on an Asa indigene as a consensus candidates for the federal house in the interest of equity, justice and fair-play, stressing that if the issue of one local government dominating the other politically was not urgently addressed, it could snowball into a crisis that the politicians themselves cannot manage.

He also took the opportunity to appeal to the politicians in Abia South to consider the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency for a Senatorial position in 2027, adding that societies can only flourish when people embrace equity and good conscience in all their dealings.
