The women of Obibor, Asa in Umunneato Autonomous Community, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, on Wednesday, embarked on a protest march to the palace of their traditional ruler, HRH Eze Tunde Onyemachi Ehiemere, over alleged widespread destruction of their farmlands by herdsmen.
The protesters demanded stoppage and compensation for the significant losses they have suffered as a result of the damage done to their farmlands allegedly by cattle rearers.
The women expressed frustration and anger over the repeated incidents of cattle encroachment on their farmlands, resulting in substantial financial losses and major threat to their means of livelihood.
According to the women, a lasting solution was necessary to avoid a recurrence.
Addressing the protesters, Eze Ehiemere, commended them for their patience, restraintand recourse to seeking his assistance rather than taking the laws into their own hands. He acknowledged their grievances and assured them that he would reach out to government authorities to address the issue of herders damaging their farms.
