The Commissioner representing Abia State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Eruba Dimgba, on Sunday, at his country home in Umuaka, Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, received a delegation from Uzuaku, one of the oil producing communities in Ukwa West Local Government Area.

Welcoming his guests, the Commissioner thanked them for deeming it fit to visit him. He apologized for the delay in lighting up the Community, promising that it will be done without further delay.

On water project, he made a commitment that the water facility already located in the community will be reticulated.

The NDDC Commissioner, who expressed delight that the Commission’s budget has recently been released, promised inclusion of Uzuaku Community for the NDDC overseas scholarship programmes as well as ensuring that Uzuaku Community gets slots in employment whenever there is opportunity.

He, therefore, urged the Community to the patient and continue to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed him to the NDDC Board. He also thanked the president for recently approving the establishment and constitution of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), hoping that Ukwa people will also benefit from it.

Earlier in their speech, the Uzuaku Community congratulated Dimgba on his appointment into the exalted office as the Abia State Representative on the NDDC Board, not only once but on two occasions.

The Community noted the numerous achievements and successes the Abia State Rep has recorded since assuming the office, confirming the confidence of both his appointors and the people of Abia State as a whole.

The Community also noted the various projects which were initiated by the NDDC through the Commissioner which include the Owaza – Okorhia – Uzuaku – Obigbo road project and the Street lights projects which are ongoing in many communities in Ukwa West LGA. Uzuaku Community commended the Commissioner and prayed that the community be included in the ongoing projects. They thanked the Abia State Rep for the road project which they are hopeful will benefit the Community but regretted that the community has not been receiving attention commensurate to its status as one of the three largest oil producing communities in Ukwa West Local Government Area and Abia State at large.

The Uzuaku Community wondered why the various levels of governments including the federal, state and local government treat Uzuaku Community with so much neglect and that same is the case even with the interventionist agencies including NDDC which were established to fast track development of the oil producing communities.

The Community expressed hope that the tenure of the Commissioner on the NDDC Board will change the narrative and usher in a season of goodwill for Uzuaku Community.

They urged the Commissioner, as a matter of urgency, to make arrangements for the immediate lighting up of the Community and Ipu South Ward as a whole. They also requested for employment slots in the Commission, the inclusion in the NDDC overseas scholarship programmes, water reticulation project and carrying along of members of Uzuaku Community and Ipu South in projects conception, execution and benefits.

They prayed that God would give the Commissioner the grace to continue the good work and in particular, to put Uzuaku Community in the top of the priority area of his coverage.

On the delegation from Uzuaku Community included, Sir Barr. S.E.C. Nwosu PhD, the chairperson of Uzuaku Community Women’s Organisation, Mrs Better Amadi, former Uzuaku Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Hon. Henry Amadi, President of Umuelechi Kindred of Uzuaku Community, Chief Obioma Ogbonna, Snr Layreader Jackson Ohanna and Hon Desmond Agomuo.
