Former Permanent Secretary in the Abia State Civil Service, Engr. Dr. Stanley Ogbonna Nana is dead. He was aged 80.
In a statement released by Mr. Noel O. Nana, on behalf of the family, Engr. Stanley Nana died on June 8, 2024 after a brief illness.
Late Engr Nana was born on June 26, 1944 into the family of late Gabriel Ogbonna Ezuaka in Owo Asa, Ozar Ukwu Autonomous Community, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
He attended St. Peters Primary School, Obegu in the present day Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State, and proceeded to Czech National High School, Prague, in Europe, where he obtained his GCE O’ level in 1964.
Nana acquired the Higher National Diploma, HND, from the Polytechnic Institute, also in Prague and a Master degree in Electrical Engineering in 1971 from the Czech Technical University.
His love for home compelled him to come back to Nigeria immediately after his studies. Nana got his first employment as an Electrical Engineer with Electro Technical Company Limited in Lagos and was posted to Olympia Hotels in Port Harcourt, Rivers State as a Supervisor for Electrical Installations in 1972.
He, later, moved to the then Imo State to begin a career in the Civil Service with the Imo State Public Utilities Board, Owerri in 1978.
Late Engr. Nana, alongside other indigenes of Abia State, which was newly created, moved to Umuahia, where he was in charge of Rural Electrification of both Ukwa East and Ukwa West Local Government Areas between 1985 and 1989.
He was Assistant General Manager, Abia State Electricity Board, Umuahia, Abia State from 1990 to1995, and General Manager in 1997.
He became Director, Electricity Project in the Ministry of Public Utilities, in 2003, was appointed a Permanent Secretary in the same year, a position he occupied until his retirement in 2004.
According to the statement, the remains of late Engr. Nana will be committed to mother earth on August 31, 2024.
