The Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, has congratulated Abia born Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe on her appointment as the Director General/Chief Executive Officer by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Ogbonna, who expressed gratitude to Tinubu for finding a daughter of Abia State worthy of such responsibility, described the appointment of Maduekwe as deserving, particularly as she had spent quality time, spanning over 15 years on Environmental issues.
He said:
“The national and international experience of Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe in climate policy development and project implementation will, no doubt, be brought to bear positively on our Environment, which needs to be protected and preserved by all.
“We are glad that this appointment puts a square peg in a square hole in the climate change space, considering your contributions, particularly as you have raised a lot of policies and other fragments of regulations for our country where your core expertise lies.”
Ogbonna said the Abia State Ministry of Environment looked forward to a mutual working relationship with the office of the National Council on Climate Change, adding that the approval of the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, which led to the establishment of the Department of Climate Change was a pointer to the commitment of Abia State to a safe and conducive environment.
The Commissioner further said:
“As already said by our Environmental-friendly Governor, the people of Abia would ensure that Dr. Maduekwe enjoys the home support that would give her the encouragement to succeed.”
He prayed God to guide Dr. Maduekwe, as she takes on her new assignment.
