The Asa Development Union, ADU, the apex socio-cultural organisation in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has condemned the gruesome murder of Miss Ocheze Ogbonna, who was a crane operator at the Inner Galaxy Steel Company located in the area.
According to a communique issued at the end of a Stakeholders meeting on Saturday, the Union vowed never to allow the atrocities perpetrated against their people by the Inner Galaxy Company to be swept under the carpet.
The communique signed by the Acting President of the Union, Barrister G.O C. Ihenko and the Secretary General, Sir Boniface Nwaigwe reads in part:
“The Stakeholders condemned in the strongest terms, the heartless murder of Miss Ocheze Ogbonna, a Crane Operator working at Inner Galaxy Steel Company Ltd, Umuahala, by her Boss, a Chinese Expatriate named Mr Power. The Stakeholders considered that it was most barbaric for this Chinese to have pushed the harmless lady out of the Crane which hung at a height of over sixty feet above ground level; causing her to eventually land her head on pieces of steel which littered all over the ground thereby resulting to her instant death.
“The Stakeholders also regretted the unremorseful attitudes of the Management of Inner Galaxy Steel Company Ltd in not just abandoning the remains of the poor girl in her pool of blood for over twelve hours, but also in mobilizing men of the Nigerian Army, who opened fire on the Youths of Umuahala Community who were peacefully protesting the murder of their Sister, Miss Ocheze Ogbonna, thus, resulting in gunning down of Mr Light Chimeko Ahuruonye of same Umuahala Community, who is at moment battling to save his life at the Federal Medical Center, Umuahia.
“The Stakeholders in session observed with dismay, that the entire Inner Galaxy Steel Company Community has become acclimated to the culture of impunity, wickedness and irresponsibility; hence the murder of Mr Chimobi Dikeji, another Inner Galaxy Steel Company Worker, who hails from Umuowaga, Umuelechi Obuzor-Asa on Tuesday 21st May, 2024 by his Colleague almost at the same time Nigerians were mourning the gruesome murder of Miss Ocheze Ogbonna.”
