Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Saturday, at Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, commissioned the Obehie – Okeikpe road reconstructed by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The Director, Corporate Affairs of the NDDC, Mr. Pius Ughakpoteni, had in a statement, disclosed that the nine kilometre road was reconstructed at the cost of N3.5 billion. The road restores the link between Rivers and Akwa Ibom States, through Ukwa West/Ukwa East local government areas in Abia State.
Speaking at the occasion, the Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, commended the NDDC for reconstructing the road, which according to him would enhance the socio-economic growth of the Ukwa West Local Government Area.
In his speech, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said the Commission was committed to completing all NDDC viable projects across the the mandate States of the Niger Delta.
Earlier the Abia State Representative on the Board of the Commission, Chief Eruba Dimgba said:
“The construction of this 9-kilometre road is a testament to the commitment of the NDDC and the Abia State Government to the development of our region. It serves as a vital link, connecting Obehie Junction to Oke-Ikpe Ukwa West Local Government Area, linking two local governments (Ukwa West and Ukwa East) and also between Abia State and Akwa Ibom State, and opening up new avenues for economic growth, social interaction and improved access to essential services”.
Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Chairman, Ukwa West Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Chinyere Dike, member representing Ukwa West State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Godwin Anyamagiobi Adiele and Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Mr. Newman Azu.
