A concerned lawyer in Abia State, Sam Ogbonna, has lamented the poor state of a Magistrate Court at Obehie in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
Ukwa West is the only oil producing local government area in Abia, and it is the only reason that entitled Abia as a member of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Writing on his Facebook page, the lawyer, who practices in Abia State displayed the pictures of the Court and said:
“This is the state of the Magistrate Court in an oil producing local government area, Ukwa West, that has been producing ASOPADEC Chairmen and NDDC Reps.
“Pigeons defecate on the “Messenger like” table used by the Magistrates. No witness box. A witness, sometimes, because nothing is inhibiting his or her movement, tends to get close to the Magistrate while gesticulating during Evidence- in – Chief or Cross Examination.
“What a big shame?
If nothing is done expeditiously, I think justice would be hard to be obtained in an environment where both the Bench, Bar and the Litigants are not in good state.”
