The Ukwa West Peoples Democratic party, PDP, on Tuesday lost one of its Chieftains, Chief Okey Kanu, the immediate past Executive Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a well attended meeting which held at the country home of the Ozar Ukwu Ward Chairman at Umuebulungwu, Asa in the Ozar Ukwu Ward, Kanu, disclosed that he admired the activities of the APC, adding that the calibre of its men and women endeared him to the party.
He stated that after the 2023 general elections, he began to show interest in defecting to the Labour Party, LP, but after wide consultations, he decided to join his forces with the ruling APC.
Kanu, who said that since he joined party politics, he had remained in one party, expressed confidence that the APC would be the political party to beat in Ukwa West Local Government Area.
The former Chairman encouraged the Ozar Ukwu Ward Chairman of the APC to secure a befitting party office as soon as possible for its activities.
The highlights of the event were issuing of the APC membership card and handing a broom, the symbol of the party by the Ukwa West APC Chairman, Elder Kenneth Uju Nwarie to the new member. Others who defected to the APC were the Ukwa West All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chairman, Mr. Ngachikara Umunnakwe and Mr. Maxwell Chimuanya Elechi.
Among the APC Stakeholders that graced the occasion, which was compered by Nkemdirim Onyeike, were the Ozar Leader of the APC, Hon. Ezedinachi Kanu, Hon. Mezie Nwubani, Pst Steve Adindu Nwankwo, Chief Bright Agu, High Chief Faith Izuwa (aka Bigi) and Chief Chima Koko.
