The Owo Ala Community in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State has lauded the appointment of Chief Eruba Dimgba as the Commissioner representing Abia State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

The Community made the commendation during a visit to Commissioner in his office at Okeikpe, the headquarters of Ukwa West Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the Community, Chief Dr. Hans Okpokiri stated that all the NDDC projects in their area, namely, the Owo Ala Water project which was started by the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission, OMPADEC, Ngwaiyiekwe-Owo Ala-Umuadienwe road, Obehie-Owo Ala-Owo Asa-Obegu road and the Owo Ala-Umuokwor road have been abandoned by the Commission.

Okpokiri lamented that the abandoned projects have caused untold hardship to the people of his community, who, according to him can no longer evacuate their farm produce easily out of the community to where the produce can be sold.

He, therefore, called on the Commissioner to come to their aid by ensuring that the abandoned projects are completed.

In his speech, the NDDC Commissioner, Dimgba said the Commission was determined to achieve its mandate of by completing all abandoned projects in the Abia State.

He also stated that there were NDDC abandoned projects across the Niger Delta region, pointing out that the management of the Commission has decided that instead of awarding new contracts, those abandoned projects would be completed.

The Commissioner, who assured the people of Owo Ala Community that their issues would receive prompt attention, regreted that most of the indigenes of Ukwa West who worked in NDDC at top positions gambled with the projects allocated to Ukwa West, adding that it was responsible for the abandonment of projects every where in the LGA.

The Commissioner also noted with concern that the abandonment of the step-down of electricity at Ikpokwu by NDDC had unduly delayed the supply of uninterrupted power from Afam to Ukwa West, Ukwa East, Ugunagbo and Obingwa LGAs.

The Chairman of Owo Ala Community, Mr. Akobueze Elendu, Secretary, Chief Adim Okpokiri and Mr. Friday Ememe were among the Owo Ala delegation.
