Heavyweights of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Saturday at the Obehie Central School, in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The PDP stalwarts, Dr. Samuel Eze Chima Nwosu, Hon. Goodluck Nwaobiwe and Henry Amadi, who had been active members of the party, used the occasion of the grand reception of the Ukwa West APC for the Commissioner representing Abia State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Engr. Chief Eruba Dimgba, to make good their resolve to turn Ukwa into an APC dominated local government area.
In his speech, Dr. Nwosu said his decision to defect to the APC was a product of series of consultations with critical political stakeholders in and out of Ukwa, adding that he was convinced that he would add value to the APC.
Speaking on the occasion, NDDC Commissioner, Chief Dimgba, thanked Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and the leadership of the APC for his reappointment as the Commissioner representing Abia State on the board of the NDDC.
He disclosed that the Commission had awarded the re-construction of the Ngwaiyiekwe – Ogwe Road, in addition to the Owaza – Imo River Road, and the Uzuaku – 144 Battalion Road.
The Commissioner said he was determined to ensure that there was massive infrastructural development in Abia State, particularly the only oil producing local government area in Abia State, through the instrumentality of the interventionist Agency.
He further said the NDDC had restored electricity light to some parts of Ukwa West, adding that the areas that had not been reconnected would soon smile.
The event attracted the presence of the State Chairman of the APC, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, who assured the gathering that the party would come very strong in the State in no distant time.
Highlights of the occasion were the public presentation of former member, House of Assembly, Hon. Chimezie Nwubani, who recently defected to the party and the opening ceremony of the Ukwa West APC Secretariat at Obehie.
Other dignitaries that graced the event were; Chief Dans Adokiye, Sir Rogers Nwachinemere, Barrister Sam Ogbonna and Engr. Sterling Uruakpa.
Others were; Chief Dominic Oforji, who compered the occasion, Chief Chijioke Nza (jnr), Steve Adindu Nwankwo and Zonal Women Leader, Abia South, Mrs. Moses Enwereuzor and Hon. Ezedinachi Kanu.
