The Abia State Government has said it was aware of the devastating gully at Umuobia Olokoro Housing Estate in Umuahia South Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna, who disclosed this while reacting to complaints by the residents of the area, said he had personally visited the location to assess the level of devastation for possible action.
He explained that efforts were on to start remediation work to contain the situation.
The Environment Commissioner revealed that the present administration was aware of the erosion menace confronting different communities in the State and would not leave the residents of the areas to continue to suffer the effect of natural disasters.
Ogbonna also said that the Ministry had also inspected the gullies at Umuchime Ogbodi, Ohokobe Afaraukwu Ibeku, Isiama Afara, and Umuagu Ibeku, among others.
