The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Barrister Nnadozie Okpokiri has said he would appeal the judgement of the Abia State Election Petition Tribunal delivered on Monday at Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

The Tribunal had struck out Okpokiri’s petition in a unanimous decision on the grounds that he failed to prove that the election was marred with substantial ‘Non Compliance’, and therefore lacking in merit.

The APC candidate had sought relief of the Tribunal to among others, Order that a fresh election for the position of Member of House of Representative for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency of Abia State be conducted by the INEC.

In a swift reaction, Okpokiri confirmed to Newsportal, during a telephone interview that he has briefed his lawyer to study the Tribunal’s judgement with a view to filing an appeal as soon as possible, he believed that there was a grave miscarriage of justice on his petition.

“On the issue of non compliance, how can the omission of the name or acronym of my party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in over 80 polling units out of 214 not be substantial non compliance to affect the outcome of the election.”, he queried.
