The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, are to meet with the Federal Government on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, the President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero said the meeting was in continuation of their meetings with the Federal Government on the issue of the withdrawal of fuel subsidy and planned interventions by the government to cushion the effect of the withdrawal of the subsidy.

Ajaero also disclosed that the government through the Federal Ministry of Justice has withdrawn the contempt charge instituted against them for embarking on protest.

He said Labour was surprised that the government could contemplate a court action when it should be clear that a strike is different from a rally, adding that the court order got by the Federal Government had to do with a strike action and not a rally.

“We will not allow rallies to be criminalised in Nigeria”, he said.
