The Abia State Commissioner for Environment and Urban Renewable, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, has commended the Security Agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Fire Service for their quick intervention in removing a truck laden with diesel that fell along the Ugwunchara by Uzuakoli Road in Umuahia on Monday.
The Commissioner, who was at the spot of the accident, also commended the owner of the truck, Col. Dominic Uche (retd) and his driver for reaching out immediately to the relevant Agencies of Government, and the positive roles they played throughout the period of the evacuation of the content of the truck.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, Ogbonna expressed the appreciation of the government of Dr. Alex Otti to the youths of the neighborhood where the accident took place for their assistance in diverting vehicular traffic and other movements, and noted that if the accidented truck, which fell across the road, and its content had not been quickly evacuated, there was every likelihood that the impact may have been very hazardous to the people and the environment.
He appealed to road users to be more careful in the interest of lives and property.
