The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, Barrister Nnadozie Okpokiri on Friday, played host to the Asa Liberation Movement, ALM, a body committed to the socio-political development of the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
Speaking, Okpokiri solicited the support of the organisation for his candidature, adding that the deprivations of the people of Ukwa by various governments stimulated his interest in vying to represent the people at the National Assembly.
He said his knowledge of the challenges of the people, academic qualifications and vast exposure in many spheres life have prepared for the onerous task of effective representation.
Okpokiri, who disclosed that he is the founding Chairman of the London branch of Asa Development Union, ADU, said he had been dedicated to the promotion of the welfare of the Asa interests both inside and outside Nigeria.
He thanked the body for taking up the responsibility of getting involved in making sure that someone from Ukwa West would represent the Ukwa Federal Constituency at the green chamber in 2023.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Asa Liberation Movement, Comrade Emeka Adiele said their organisation was an umbrella shielding all Asa progressives in the pursuit of the well being of the people of Ukwa West.
While stating that the body cuts across political divides, the Chairman emphasised that there was need to change the political narratives in Ukwa by ensuring that equity was enthroned by ensuring that someone from Ukwa West would represent Ukwa land considering the fact that an Ukwa East son has been at the House of Representatives for the past 16 years.
He appealed to all the candidates of the different political parties in Ukwa West to abide by the outcome of a harmonisation exercise to be embarked on by the organisation in conjunction with the Asa Development Union, the apex socio-political group in Ukwa West.
Also speaking, the spokesman of the ALM, assured that the best of the four candidates from Ukwa West would receive the nod of the organisation.
The Director General of the DozieUkwa, the Campaign organisation of Barrister Nnadozie Okpokiri, Hon. Ezedinachi Kanu extolled the virtues of Okpokiri, stressing that he has the capacity, qualifications and exposure to give Ukwa the quality representation it deserves at this critical point of its development.
