Former lawmaker that represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly and strong rival to former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in the politics of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has resigned from the party.
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the former governorship aspirant of the APC gave the unwillingness of the presidential candidate of the APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to negotiate with him, as reason for his resignation.
His resignation letter reads in part:
“My decision to quit is not unconnected with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s seeming unwillingness to negotiate with me since he expects me to remain in the APC. Hence my resolve to seek alternative platform to actualize my Gubernatorial Ambition in Rivers State.
“I feel it is time to move on with my Ambition, having served this country as Lawmaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly, SSG of Rivers State, and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Abe, who lost the Rivers State APC gubernatorial ticket to Tonye Cole, had said during a media briefing at Freedom House, his campaign office in Port Harcourt, that he must be on the ballot box in the 2023 elections.
