Former Senatorial candidate for the Abia South Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the 2015 and 2019 general elections, Chief Chris Nkwonta has secured the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections.
Nkwonta beat former Commissioner, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Barrister Sam Nwogu and Comrade Promise Onwukwe to clinch the ticket during the PDP primaries that were conducted on Sunday.
The current member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Uzoma Abonta, who bought PDP’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the office withdrew from the contest before the votes were cast.
He attributed his reason for withdrawing from the contest to the fact that he did not want to be part of a process that is born out of illegality and falsehood.
According to a release issued immediately after the primary election by his media aide, Comrade O. P. Ifeanyichukwu, the Federal Lawmaker and some other PDP stalwarts had petitioned the PDP headquarters, alleging illegality, irregularity, forgery and doctoring of the 3-man Ad-hoc PDP delegates list in Abia State.
