The Abia State All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, at Umuahia, the State capital, held a mega-meeting comprising leaders and party officials from all the Wards in the State.
Addressing the members, the former Chairman of the party, Hon. Chief Donatus Nwankpa, stated that there was no faction in the party, stressing that the party under its current Chairman, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma was intact and united.
He reminded them of the need to forget about who owns the party, as the Constitution of the party was very clear that it was the Ward Executives recognised by the Caretaker Committee members that had the right to conduct Ward Congresses.
Nwankpa assured the members that by May, 2023, an APC Governor would be sworn in Abia State, adding that , “Come rain, come sunshine, Chomen is the father of APC in Abia State.”
Speaking, a Chieftain of the party, Senator Chris Adighije noted with concern that some members were already defecting to other political parties. He said, “I am here to give you a message of hope to go home with. God has given us APC Abia State, and we will take over the government next year.”
He expressed optimism that the new leadership that would emerge after the Convention would strengthen the party.
In his own speech, the State Secretary of the party, Barr. Perfect Okorie, said Abia APC have been blessed with leaders who protect the interest of members of the party, adding that the major concern of the leaders is to deliver Abia State from the bondage it has found itself for more than a decade.
