The Publisher of Abia Pulse News Online, has apologised to Dr. Alex Otti, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for publishing a press statement by the Abia State Government, which Otti found libellous.
In a statement signed by the Publisher of Abia Pulse News Online, Ugochukwu Nwankwo, explained that their media organisation never intended, never planned to malign or assassinate the character of Dr. Alex Otti.
It will be recalled that Dr. Otti had gone to a High Court at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to institute a N50 billion damage suit against the Commissioner for Information, Abia State, Eze Chikamnnayo and Abia Pulse News Online over a press statement, titled, ” Enough of Otti’s Nonsense”.
The statement reads, “Our Attention has been drawn to a litigation set to ensue between the Abia Commissioner for Information and Dr Alex Otti to which our platform Abia Pulse Newsonline was joined as defendants.
” The said press statement published by us on the 17th of November 2021 with the above title, was not our opinion neither did we add even one word to the statement, rather it was entirely the opinion of Abia state government and duly signed by The commissioner for Information as contained in the publication and also published by other platforms.
“We had thought that the personal explanation given to media handlers of the revered Banker will suffice only to wake up to an unwanted legal tussle which our platform is neither ready nor interested to pursue.
“We therefore state that we never intended nor planned to malign, nor assassinate the character of Dr. Otti as stated suit and to prove this we hereby retract and apologize to Dr. Otti, and had taken a step further to pull down the said publication which is generating this controversy from our site.
“We hope these steps taken will help mitigate whatever grievances Dr. Otti and his legal team harbours towards us and our platform”.
