Continuous Voter Registration: Ukwa West Labour Party Mobilises Stakeholders For INEC Exercise

The Labour Party (LP), Ukwa West Local Government Area chapter, on Saturday at Obehie, Asa, during a critical stakeholders meeting, intensified mobilisation efforts ahead of future elections, urging members and residents to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration Exercise being conducted by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Environment, Abia State, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, who expressed delight at the impressive turnout of members, conveyed the appreciation of the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti over the warm reception that was accorded him during his recent visit to the area.

He emphasised that the developmental strides of the Governor in Ukwa West had paved the way for members to encourage those at the grassroots to register so that they would have the opportunity of voting for Otti for a second tenure.

The Commissioner lamented the absence of a functional secretariat for LP in Ukwa West, and announced his commitment to personally fund the rent for a party office for one year as soon as a space was found.

In his speech, the General Manager of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Ven. Dr. Joshua Onyeike, thanked the leadership of the LP at the local government for inviting critical stakeholders to discuss the unity and progress of the party, adding that each stakeholder at the various ward levels should show great commitment to the mobilisation of people for the ongoing voter registration.

He commended the Commissioner for Environment for his willingness to pay for rent for a befitting secretariat for the party, and pledged to donate furniture for the office.

The premier Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Council, Mr. Newman Azu assured the party of his personal commitment to its progress at all times, stressing that total victory for the party during the forthcoming elections was not negotiable.

In his remarks, the member representing Ukwa West State Constituency, Hon. Godwin Anyamagiobi Adiele pointed out the need for the party to leverage on the experiences of the seasoned politicians who recently defected to the Labour Party to strengthen it to achieve greater impact and boost the chances of winning elections in 2027.

He called on the leaders of the LP at different levels to work collaboratively to achieve synergy for the party.

Also speaking, the Commissioner in the Abia State Civil Service Commission, Comrade Chibuike Alozie, while making a donation of the sum of One Hundred Thousand naira to the office of the LG party Chairman emphasised the need for unity and collaboration among political office holders and members of the party.

Similarly, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and former All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Engr. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke, highlighted that collaborative efforts among political office holders are necessary for the synergy required to secure LP’s victory in the next general elections.

The meeting, which was moderated by the Ukwa West LP Chairman, Apostle I.O. Dike, was attended by stakeholders across the ten political Wards in Ukwa West, including executive members of Abia Arise, the political structure of the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
