Nigeria Finchtech Giant Paystack Fires Co‑Founder Ezra Olubi Amid Internet Controversy

Nigerian fintech giant, Paystack, has fired its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, today amid widespread internet controversy.

Olubi, a Computer Science graduate from Babcock University and an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), was previously suspended following sexual misconduct allegations that surfaced on social media. His termination comes before the investigation was completed, and Olubi says he was not given a chance to respond.

“The decision was taken before the investigation concluded and without any meeting or hearing,” Olubi said. “My legal team is now reviewing the process and will take the steps they consider appropriate.”

Old tweets from 2009 to 2013, containing sexually explicit content, also resurfaced during the controversy, increasing public scrutiny. Olubi insists the posts do not reflect his current character or behaviour.

Paystack has not issued a public comment on the termination. Analysts say the situation raises important questions about governance, accountability, and due process in Nigeria’s fintech sector.
