The President General of the Asa Development Union (ADU), Elder Goodluck Nwanneakolam Nwuju, has urged churches, town unions, social groups, and individuals in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State to refrain from scheduling events on December 26 each year to avoid clashes with the annual Asa Day celebrations.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Union’s General Consultative Assembly held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Chyvik Model Secondary School, Obehie, Elder Nwuju emphasized that December 26 has long been dedicated exclusively to Asa Day festivities. He warned that fixing other events on the same date would undermine the collective interests of the Asa people.
He explained that Asa Day, which is observed once every year, serves as a unifying platform that brings together sons, daughters, and wives of Asa land to celebrate and preserve the community’s rich cultural heritage. According to him, the event plays a vital role in strengthening unity, identity, and pride among Asa people.
The President General called on all residents of Ukwa West to actively participate in the 2025 Asa Day Celebration, describing it as a cultural obligation and a community-wide commitment to heritage preservation.
