Amid growing concerns and allegations of non-performance, Hon. Godwin Anyamagiobi Adiele, the lawmaker representing Ukwa West State Constituency in Abia State, has highlighted his developmental strides and advised his constituents to avoid playing unhealthy politics capable of destabilising societal order.
In an exclusive interview with Newsportal, Hon. Adiele emphasized that he has consistently delivered on his mandate, despite the challenges of serving as a member of an opposition party in the Abia State House of Assembly.
He said that one of his flagship projects, a scholarship scheme launched in 2019, has continued to support indigent students of Ukwa West. Recently, three students became new beneficiaries; Smith Jesse Nmesoma at the Ebonyi State University, Divine Ugochukwu Nwankwo, Abia State University and Precious Emenike at the University of Port Harcourt.
He also noted that his scholarship scheme has already produced three University graduates namely; Master Sunday Chidiebere Gospel (Ogwe, Asa Group), Miss Kelechi Levi (Oborhia, Ozar Zone), and Miss Fortune Ihuoma Bertram-Onwugbufor (Umudobai, IPU Zone).
Hon. Adiele outlined several community development initiatives he has undertaken, including; construction of a modern market hall at Obehie, Installation of a borehole in Owo Ala to improve water access, facilitation of a four-classroom block for a primary school in Obuzor, purchase of vehicles for constituents as part of an empowerment drive, direct cash support to local entrepreneurs and business owners. He also disclosed that a civic centre at Obokwe being handled by him is under construction, stressing that the virgin road from the Imo River axis of the Aba – Port Harcourt expressway into Obiakpu community initiated by him is under construction.
In his drive for youth development, the legislator said he has sponsored numerous Asa indigenes in skill acquisition programmes, adding that he has continued to provide financial assistance to the Asa Development Union, the apex socio-cultural organisation in Ukwa, to promote the local government area’s development agenda.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hon. Adiele distributed relief materials across Ukwa West to mitigate the economic impact on his constituents.
In the legislative arena, he reaffirmed his active participation in lawmaking. He has sponsored and supported bills beneficial to the people of Abia State while ensuring that Ukwa West is always represented during Assembly sessions.
As part of his core legislative responsibilities – lawmaking, representation, and oversight, the legislator affirmed his effective representation of the people of Ukwa West on numerous critical issues. He highlighted his active involvement in addressing the crisis that followed the killing of a soldier between the Okohia and Owaza communities, the tragic killing of another soldier between Umudobia and Owaza, the untimely death of a young girl, Miss Ocheze Ogbonna at Inner Galaxy, and the recent killing of two Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel. He emphasized that he has consistently championed the interests of his constituents and has never been found wanting in matters concerning Ukwa West.
Hon. Adiele concluded by urging constituents to avoid divisive and unhealthy politicking that hinders community progress. He emphasized the importance of unity and constructive dialogue for the overall development of Ukwa West.
