Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has stated that he is not desperate to return to office amid ongoing political tensions in the state.

According to a report by Channels Television, Fubara made this revelation in Port Harcourt during a service of songs held in honour of late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark.

The event, organised by the Rivers Elders Forum, saw several speakers refer to Fubara as the legitimate Governor and condemn his suspension, demanding its immediate reversal. In response, Fubara distanced himself from those remarks, describing them as personal opinions and cautioning that such sentiments may not promote peace.

“Not everything is by oshogbe,” Fubara said, indicating his preference for a calm and strategic approach to resolving the crisis. “Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit has already left there,” he added, signaling emotional detachment from the office.

Fubara also criticized some actions taken by his supporters, stating that while their intentions may have been good, their actions have further complicated the situation.

He called on attendees to focus on the legacy of Chief Edwin Clark, who was known for his selfless service and advocacy for the Niger Delta, instead of politicising the memorial event.
