2026 Asa Day: Committee Begins Strategic Planning, Targets Historic Celebration

The 2026 Asa Day Planning Committee has commenced preparations for this year’s celebration, with the proposed theme: “From Agenda to Action: Building a Greater Future Through Purposeful Leadership, Unity and Sustainable Cultural Heritage”

The committee held its first consultative strategic meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the country home of its Chairman, Engr. Sterling Chinwendu Uruakpa, in Umuezeke, Asa Group, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.

The meeting brought together members of the planning committee in large numbers to deliberate on strategies, programmes and activities aimed at ensuring a successful celebration. They
Pledged their commitment to making the event memorable, entertaining, and impactful.

In his opening remarks, Engr. Uruakpa thanked members for their presence and expressed appreciation for their willingness to contribute their time and resources towards the success of the 2026 Asa Day.

He solicited the “unalloyed support” of members, stressing that the committee must work collectively to ensure that the celebration is not only colourful and entertaining but also meaningful and impactful to the Asa people.

The Chairman further emphasised the importance of teamwork, effective coordination and commitment as preparations gather momentum, urging members to approach their responsibilities with the spirit of service and dedication.

Responding unanimously, members of the committee reaffirmed their determination to work together to sustain the significance of Asa Day, declaring that the annual celebration would continue to be “inked in the hearts and annals of history.”

The Asa Development Union Secretary and Secretary of the 2026 Asa Day Planning Committee, Sir Boniface Nwaigwe, subsequently presented the committee’s action plan, carefully outlining the proposed roadmap and providing members with a framework to guide the planning process and ensure that various aspects of the celebration receive adequate attention.

Members deliberated extensively on the action plan and other issues relating to the organisation of the event. Following the discussions and due consideration of the proposals, the Chairman directed that the main committee be divided into various sub-committees.

According to him, the creation of the sub-committees would facilitate effective delegation of responsibilities, improve coordination and ensure that preparations for the celebration are carried out efficiently.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with members expressing optimism about the prospects of the 2026 Asa Day celebration and reaffirming their readiness to work towards its success. The Chairman’s hosting further strengthened the spirit of camaraderie and unity among the committee members.

The 2026 Asa Day Planning Committee is expected to intensify its activities in the coming months as the various sub-committees are expected to commence their assignments ahead of the celebration.
